SOUTH BUCKS PHYSIOTHERAPISTS - OUR TEAM OF PHYSIOTHERAPISTS

Katie Relf MCSP BSc(Hons), a partner since 1999

For all of her professional career, Katie has worked locally, either gaining invaluable experience in the NHS at Wexham Park and Heatherwood Hospitals, or for the last 13 years, privately as part of SBP.

SBP were based at the Spire Thames Valley Hospital (formerly Nuffield Hospital) enabling Katie to work closely with the local consultants, treating both their in-patients and out-patients. She became very competent in understanding consultants specific postoperative protocols, having worked alongside them for so many years, and effectively rehabilitated patients from operation back to their chosen sport or activities of daily living.

SBP moved to the newly refurbished Park Hall Clinic in 2014 where Katie continues to treat consultant and GP referred patients as well as many returning self-pay patients. With Windsor Foot and Ankle Clinic also based at Park Hall, Katie developed a special interest in foot and ankle conditions, and has become a member of the Association of Foot and Ankle Physiotherapists (AFAP). She also enjoys treating shoulder dysfunctions and has attended many appropriate courses. Consultants specialising in the knee and spinal problems continue to refer patients to Katie at SBP. Katie is qualified to do acupuncture and is a member of AACP. Katie believes that many of patients problems should be managed with exercises and manual techniques and feels that education to patients about their condition is an important part of her job.

Katie continues to keep her CPD up to date and knows that research findings are an important part of effective treatment. Katie is a member of HCPC, Physio First and the Association of Foot and Ankle Physiothapists.

In her spare time Katie enjoys skiing and spending time with her very active family.

Vivien Wood MCSP, a partner since 1972

Vivien trained at Manchester Royal Infirmary School of Physiotherapy. On qualification she began work as a physiotherapist at the Grimsby General Hospital. She moved to London and worked at Hillingdon Hospital for 6 years, gaining experience in orthopaedics, rheumatology, respiratory conditions, geriatrics, gynaecology and obstetrics, musculoskeletal conditions and gym rehabilitation. After her maternity break Vivien was approached to work at the Thames Valley Nuffield Hospital (now Spire Hospital) to support the 365 days a year in-patient physiotherapy service.

In 1984 she jointly set up an outpatient service to provide continuity of care for the hospital's in-patients. Vivien continues to work as a partner of SBP at Park Hall Clinic.

Her main interests are orthopaedic rehabilitation after trauma and surgery, including joint replacement. She also enjoys treating "silver seniors" and is happy to visit people in their own homes if they are unable to attend the clinic.

She is also a qualified aromatherapist. Her career has spanned many years and experiences but she still maintains her continuing professional development by attendance at courses and meetings locally and in London.

Vivien was recently successfully audited by HCPC. Vivien is a member of HCPC, Physio First and The Complementary Therapy Association.
